The system will integrate with the Riyadh Metro, allowing for smooth transfers and enhancing accessibility throughout the city.
The King Abdullah Financial District Development and Management Company (KAFD DMC) has announced a new monorail project designed to improve urban mobility within Riyadh. Revealed during the 8th edition of the Future Investment Initiative (FII8) Conference, the monorail will span 3.6 kilometres and will feature a driverless autopilot system, promoting sustainable transportation in the city.
This project involves a contract with CRRC (Hong Kong) Co. Limited, CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co. Ltd and Hassan Allam Construction Saudi. The monorail will consist of six trains operating along a circular track, with strategically placed stations connecting office buildings, retail spaces and leisure facilities.
The system will integrate with the Riyadh Metro, allowing for smooth transfers and enhancing accessibility throughout the city. This initiative aligns with KAFD's vision of a 10-Minute City, where essential amenities are easily reachable within a short walk.
Once operational, the monorail is expected to accommodate up to 3,500 passengers per hour during peak times, reinforcing KAFD’s commitment to innovative urban solutions.
