USSD Mobile Banking Services Introduced in Sudan
USSD-based banking services will launch in Sudan next week to expand access to financial services without internet.
USSD-based mobile banking services are set to launch in Sudan next week, allowing users to access financial services through basic mobile phone networks without requiring internet connectivity.
The initiative is coordinated by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Communications in collaboration with the Central Bank of Sudan and the Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority.
The service will enable users to carry out core banking functions through USSD codes on mobile devices, providing an alternative to smartphone banking apps. The first phase of the rollout will include person-to-person bank transfers, credit balance inquiries, and transaction summaries.
The programme is designed to support access to financial services in areas where internet connectivity is limited or where mobile banking applications experience slowdowns during peak usage periods.
Implementation is being carried out with partners in the telecom and banking sectors, with service providers expected to release further operational details and service offerings.
