Adyen Secures UAE Payments Licence From Central Bank

Adyen, the global financial technology platform, has secured a Retail Payment Services Category II licence from the Central Bank of the UAE, strengthening its local operations and enabling direct management of payment settlements within the country.

The licence allows Adyen to process local settlements without relying on third-party providers, giving the company greater oversight of compliance and settlement processes while offering merchants a more streamlined and secure payments experience.

Adyen has operated in the UAE since 2020 and currently powers payments for businesses including Careem, Ellington Properties, Gargash Group, Noon and Ziina.

According to the company, the licence also supports continued investment in local payment capabilities, including fraud prevention, emerging payment methods and unified commerce solutions, while laying the groundwork for future technologies such as agentic AI.

The approval strengthens Adyen's ability to support both UAE-based businesses and international companies operating in the country through its locally managed payments infrastructure.
