‘Complaint No. 713317’ Heads to Rotterdam for International Premiere
Yasser Shafiey’s award-winning feature will screen in the Bright Future competition at IFFR 2026.
Egyptian feature film ‘Complaint No. 713317’ will have its international premiere at the 55th International Film Festival Rotterdam, screening in the Bright Future competition from January 29th to February 8th, 2026.
The film recently won the Best Screenplay Award at the 46th Cairo International Film Festival. Written and directed by Yasser Shafiey, the drama follows Magdy and Sama, a retired couple in their sixties living in Cairo’s Maadi district.
Their quiet routines are disrupted when their refrigerator breaks down, triggering a prolonged dispute with a maintenance company that gradually exposes bureaucratic obstacles, personal strain, and cracks within their relationship. The film’s title is drawn directly from Shafiey’s own experience.
After his refrigerator malfunctioned, the filmmaker found himself navigating Egypt’s consumer complaint system, ultimately filing an official complaint under the number that would later give the film its name.
The cast includes Mahmoud Hemida, Shereen, Hana Shiha, Mohamed Radwan, Ali El-Tayeb, Enam Salousa, and Hanan Wasfy.
Rotterdam’s Bright Future programme is dedicated to first and second features by emerging filmmakers, positioning ‘Complaint No. 713317’ among new international voices in contemporary cinema.
