Free Entry to Museums in Egypt for International Museum Day May 18th

Entry to all antiquity museums in the country will be free for Egyptian nationals on May 18th, in celebration of International Museum Day (IMD). What’s more, Egyptian visitors will be entitled to participate in free guided tours across the museums, offering a deeper understanding on the country’s many archaeological collections with explanations from experts.

The Egyptian museum sector regularly participates in local and international heritage and cultural events as part of its plan to raise awareness for archaeological, cultural, and touristic institutions amongst Egyptians. Some museums will also organise special exhibitions and activities for the event in addition to the free guided tours.

The one-day initiative is intended to support the museums’ roles as educational institutions for the whole population, at a time where the majority of museum visitors are international visitors rather than locals. Worldwide, more than 37,000 museums from 158 countries participate in IMD every year.
