Egypt's Mosques Will Soon All Have One Unified Call to Prayer
Grouped by governorate, prayer calls will be synced across the country to eliminate the inconvenience of repeated echoes.
The Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs has put forward the decision to unify the sound of Egypt’s mosques using a wireless signalling system installed in the mosques’ minarets.
Grouped by governorate, prayer calls will be synced across the country to eliminate the inconvenience and confusion of repeated echoes. Directly before prayer times, a mu’athen will be assigned to enable signal receiving in their respective minaret, allowing the call to prayer to be performed in a unified voice and pace across the country.
Having been in the works since 2019, the project has finally been launched and is expected to fully furnish Egypt’s mosques, using 1700 devices, in the electronic system by 2023.
